Facebook Launches Shazam-Like Audio Recognition And New Privacy Feature to Help Users Share With Right Audience

Facebook Inc. (FB) announced on Thursday the launch of a new feature that will let Android and iOS app users identify any background music or TV show that is playing in the user's vicinity. Once the app identifies a known song or TV show, users will have the option to include this information when updating their status. The app works in a similar fashion to Shazam, as it relies on using the phone's microphone to scan for and recognize popular songs. Facebook also announced it will introduce a new privacy feature, called expanded privacy checkup tool, which will prompt users to check their current privacy settings. The new feature is designed to, help people make sure they are sharing with just the audience they want, the social media giant said in a blog post. In early afternoon trade, FB shares were up 0.9% to $61.05. The stock is near the higher end of the 52-week range of $22.67 - $72.59.
