In the Dubai Open Venus Williams lost her title and an unbeaten record stretching back a decade when she subsided to a 6-4, 6-2 third-round and defeat against Lucie Safarova. This was Williams fourth appearance at the tournament in the last decade and she had won the title on all three previous visits, beating Alize Cornet in the final last year.
In the Duty free Tennis Championship,In all five of the top eight seeded players failed to reach Thursday's quarterfinals: Kvitova, Ivanovic, No. 5 Agnieszka Radwanska, No. 7 Angelique Kerber and No. 8 Williams.
In a report Kvitova was another player who threatened a comeback but Carla Suarez Navarro won the final three games to triumph 6-3 4-6 6-3 while fellow Spaniard Garbine Muguruza eased past Radwanska 6-4 6-2. On the other Court Italy s Flavia Pennetta continued to put her disappointing start to the season behind her with a 6-2 3-6 6-1 victory over seventh seed Angelique Kerber.
From the very beginning of the game The 34-year-old American's serving delivery was at half pace for much of the match in a court temperature of about 40 degrees, her movement was slow, and her appetite for the battle not great. The defending champion was not in right form and she dropped serve in the opening game and after failing to convert three successive break back points at 4-5, no longer looked a serious contender for victory.
After the End of the game The eighth-seeded Williams said ''I think she played awesome,''. ''There were a couple of games there that I didn't even get my racket on the ball. What can I say to that'' on the other hand the winning woman Safarova said ''I was firing the ball, serving really well,''
In a statement Williams she said that she will return home earlier than expected after 16 successive wins in Dubai, it will not alter her decision to continue skipping the Indian Wells tournament which starts in three weeks' time. It will give me a chance to rest and want to win the Indian cup. In the Dubai Open Williams looked listless in the humid 93 degree F (34 C) temperatures.
