The Grinch Steals Top Spot at U.S. BO: Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star is Born Hold its Glorious Run

The Christmas themed animation film The Grinch dominated the weekend domestic box office as expected and collected $66 million for the three day weekend including Thursday night premieres. The film received mixed to negative from critics and the audience gave an A- rating at the Cinemascore. Yarrow Cheney, Scott Mosier directorial film is predicted to have a good run in the coming days as it is the only Christmas themed film this year.

The Grinch opening weekend is the third highest opening for an animation film in November, behind The Incredibles and Frozen which collected $70 million and $67 million respectively. The film released in 23 international markets and collected $12.7 million with a global cumulative of $78.7 million at the box office. It is yet to release in more key markets around the world.

The musical biography film Bohemian Rhapsody sustains its performance at the box office and had a better collection than the predicted figures. The film grossed $30.8 million in its second weekend in the domestic market rounding off the overall figures to more than $100 million in the U.S. Newly released Overlord with positive reviews took the third spot with $10 million each in domestic and international markets.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms in its second weekend showed a good performance taking the fourth place with $9.5 million overshadowing the new release The Girl in the Spider’s Web. Fede Alvarez’ Crime thriller disappointed at the box office collecting $8 million for the weekend sharing the fifth spot with A Star is Born which collected the same amount in its sixth weekend. The film is showing a command over the box office, dominating the superhero picture Venom which collected half of its weekend number.
