U.S. Weekend Box office: Venom, A Star is Born Exceeds Opening Projections

The Opening weekend for the two most anticipated films of October was fantastic and exceeding the expectations, the films got huge opening numbers in the domestic box office. Earlier, the films Venom and A Star is Born were predicted to collect around $65 million and $35 million respectively as per the expectations and scale of the film.

Coming to the Tom Hardy starrer Venom, the superhero movie collected $80 million in the three day weekend along with early premieres making it as the top October opening weekend film of all-time beating the previous best Gravity which collected $56 million. Venom got negative reviews from critics and also a bad word of mouth from the audience terming it as a dull experience. The Global total of the film stands around $205 million with $125 million added from 58 international markets. Though the film managed to post a good opening figure, the weekdays' decline will suggest the probable final numbers of the film.

Bradley Cooper’s debut directorial A Star is Born stars the director himself and Lady Gaga making a sweet experience for the audience. The movie got highly positive reviews and appreciated for the top-notch performances by the lead actors. The movie recorded a weekend total of $43 million at the domestic box office along with the midweek screenings of the film. The movie collected $14 million from 31 other markets with more to release in the coming days.

Considering the scale of the films, the opening weekend numbers of both the films are excellent and the films are expected to have a minimal decline in coming weeks without much competition in the box office. A Star is Born with great content and Venom being the first choice for superhero moviegoers, the films are sure to shine at the box office.
