Health Alert for Persistent Cough for Longer Duration, Lung Disease Chances

A chronic cough which lasts more than a fortnight needs more than over-the-counter medication requires a doctor's consultation.  As this is a flu season, a persistent cough may be a symptom of the chronic disease. Persistent cough for a longer duration, more than four to five weeks is an indicator of a lung disease or pneumonia, which can be diagnosed with the accompanying symptoms. If a cough is accompanied with bad breath and sour taste with the burning sensation in the chest, may be due to Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GRD), which needs antacid and ulcer medications before the conditions worsen. 

A persistent cough may also result in shortness of breath and asthma symptoms, which leads to difficulty in breathing accompanied by postnasal drip (due to the presence of virus ) and nasal congestion.  Consult the doctor if a cough persists for a longer duration.  Eucalyptus oil and steaming helps for a good nasal and sinus relief.  Avoid curd and buttermilk, which would aggravate the symptoms. Instead take hot tomato soups, vegetable soups, green leafy soups with sprinkled pepper powder.  White pepper is less spicy but more effective. About 5 ml of melted Warm Ghee intake, helps to stop the dry cough immediately. 

Cow's milk and pepper have good immune power and garlic boiled in milk for 10-15 minutes and its intake will clear the cold symptoms within 2-4 days depending on the severity.  Taking boiled cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage taken warm will also help to clear the phlegm.  Papaya induces the immune power and removes toxins from the body.   Take plenty of fluids and rest and washing the hands frequently disinfectants with prevents reinfection.
