A feud that pitted the operator of a dating app and the leading advocacy group for sexual health was finally settled late this week after the dating site finally agreed to add different links to testing locations for sexually transmitted diseases.
The battle was between Tinder the dating site and AIDS Healthcare Foundation. The fight goes back to the fall of last year when the non-profit organization based in Los Angeles put up advertisements and billboards across New York City and LA associating Tinder with STDs such as gonorrhea and Chlamydia.
Tinder s owner is IAC/InterActive Corp and the website forms part of Match Group Inc. The dating site sent a letter of cease and desist to the advocacy group at the time the billboards were put up.
Now that the dating site has decided to add the testing locations for STDs to its online app, the group is taking the billboards and the advertisements down that mention the company.
In a prepared statement, the foundation said that the reasons the campaign was started was a report on a dramatic increase in the number of STDs during 2014 by the U.S. Center for Disease Control.
On Thursday, Tinder declined to make a comment on the letter but did say that an important part of any relationship that is healthy, whether formed through Tinder or otherwise, is making sure that both people are sexually healthy and safe.
While no connection was every identified by the CDC in is study on the STD topic with Tinder usage being associated with or causing an increase in the number of STDs cases, organizations are favored that provide educational resources on that topic.
Under Tinder s health and safety section on its website, is a free locator for STD from Healthvana as well as under the frequently asked questions area on its mobile app.
