According to reports health officials in California has tied the measles outbreak to Disney land, but they confirmed that they are trying to track down the origin of the outbreak and looking at Philippines. Health officials have also confirmed that the measles cases are on the rise in the United States.
The researchers said, the measles have the same genetic materials that are found in Philippines. According to the international health organizations more than 50,000 people were sickened and more than 110 were killed in Philippines because of measles. But the researchers are trying to figure out the strain that got into United States and to Disney Land. In a statement the health officials said, there are 141 reported cases of measles in the states and those who are effected didn t have any vaccine.
Researchers said, measles linked to Philippines were found in the States in 2014. It was reported that more than 380 people were affected at that time. The researchers have also confirmed that the measles from Philippines were tracked in 14 other countries which include England, Germany and six American States. Though the health officials had visited the Disney Land between December 17 and 20, they couldn t locate the family who may have carried the measles strain from the Philippines.
In a statement, Dr. Matt Zahn, Medical Director for Orange County said, The genotype is really the genetic fingerprint of the virus, and so it certainly tells you the number of cases that we have been seeing in California likely all relate to that individual that began at Disneyland .
The researchers said measles had been declared eliminated from the States in 2000. But in recent times there are more than 100 measles cases found across United States every year. It was said, these measles strain were brought in the country by travelers from the countries where the illness is more common.
Health officials said, measles can be found in winter or early spring. The symptoms for measles are, fever, runny nose, cough and rash all over the body.
