Cut your Electric bills with Cool Wood - New Invention

A new type of wood is designed that can help to reduce the electric bills. Scientists tell that this strong and cool wood can radiate the heat away and thereby making office areas and homes cool. Besides, it can also reduce electric bills drastically. Researchers who belong to the University of Maryland and The University of Colorado in the US have used nature’s nanotechnology to find a solution for the building to dump heat.

They find it to be a passive way to achieve the goal in a sustainable and strong way. They also said, "Wood is an already used a building material which is renewable and sustainable. A study was published on this in the Journal Science. It explained that there are tiny structures found in the wood which are naturally occurring chambers that pass water and nutrients up and down. Special wood has optical properties that can radiate heat away. Liang Bing Hu, from the University of Maryland, said, “Cooling wood that is made up of solely wood, and no any other polymers can cool the house as a green building material.

This material can cool the home without electricity or water”. The actual process here is that the lignin which gives brown and strong property for the wood is removed. This makes the wood very pale and the cellulose as nanofibres. But there is no panic as we have lost the strength of the wood. They compress the wood to regain their strength. The superhydrophobic compound is added to make the wood water repellent. And this brings in the final product that is white in colour and serves as the material to build roofs to push away heat from the inside of the building.
