The network confirmed in a statement late Thursday night that the expert ESPN analyst will be taking over hosting duties for Chris Fowler on College Game day. The network also said Thursday that Davis had signed a contract extension through 2021. Davis joined the network in 1995. He will no longer call Thursday night college football games for the network. Davis recently completed his 20th year with the network and hosts ESPN s basketball sibling of Game Day throughout the winter.
Fowler is the only host the vast majority of Game Day s audience knows. For 25 full seasons, Fowler was the guy we woke up to on Saturday mornings for three months a year.
The ESPN executive vice president, programming and production, John Wildhack, said in a statement This agreement reflects our belief that Rece Davis is one of the very best in the industry, He is too good at his service.
Rece Davis said in an announcement I am truly proud and gratified to have hosted College GameDay for the past 25 years, from the humble early days in the studio to its present place on the sports TV landscape, Fowler said in a statement. Traveling the country with Lee, Kirk, Desmond, and the whole Game Day family as we shared Saturday mornings with passionate football fans has been professionally and personally rewarding and unforgettable fun.
To the information from the sports news desk, Fowler had hosted GameDay since 1990. Last season, he became ESPN's lead play-by-play announcer for college football, replacing Brent Musburger. That meant sometimes hosting GameDay in one location in the morning and traveling to another site for ABC's Saturday Night Football. Analyst Kirk Herbstreit does the same.
In the other point of view Davis who also calls play-by-play for selected college basketball games and the Thursday night college football game will have the opportunity to see all parts of the United States as host of Game Day beginning in the fall.
