U.S Airport Struggles With More 2700 Flight Cancellation Due to Bad Weather

Due to increased Omicron cases and heavy storms, American returns are finding it hard to return to the states. The flights are getting cancelled by making a note that more than 6,600-weekend cancellations in the U.S. Since Christmas Eve, at least 13,000 flights have been cancelled, as record Covid-19 infections contribute to worker shortages at airports and in cockpits.

The United States is facing heavy storms currently, and also the Omicron virus is also spreading at a high rate of infection. Flight attendants have also been affected by the coronavirus, forcing flights to be cancelled. The workers working at the airports are also infected by Covid19. This made the situation even more difficult for the passengers who wanted to fly.

As of December 31, 2,604 flights had been cancelled in the United States. 4,529 flights worldwide have been cancelled. More than 50 per cent of flights have been cancelled in the United States alone. For Sunday, Southwest Airlines Co. has cancelled 423 flights or 11% of its schedule. Regional carrier SkyWest Inc. scrapped 529, or 22%.

The death toll from COVID-19 in the United States has risen to 828,562. Despite large financial incentives, US airline cabin crew, pilots, and support staff were hesitant to work overtime during the holidays. It is to note that among the airlines with the most cancellations were SkyWest and SouthWest, with 510 and 419 cancellations respectively, FlightAware showed.
