There are about millions of children with food allergies in the United States who are suffering from the peanut allergy. The children and teenagers can be desensitized from this life-threatening allergy by using new food allergy drug.

After one year of treatment with a newly invented drug by Immune Therapeutics, says about 70% of children and teenagers suffering from peanut allergies were able to accept two peanuts or equivalent.

By reducing the severity of the allergic reaction to peanut, AR-01 provides a useful protection and positive knock-on food allergic patients.  This research results in overall 80%reduction in epinephrine use in AR 101 patients. Epinephrine, used as a lifesaver for the anaphylaxis (severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reactions) in food allergic patients in case of accidental exposure.

Wayne G. Shreffler, director of the Food Allergy Center at Massachusetts General Hospital opines that further research will be needed for a permanent relief of this allergy in near future. With FDA approval this drug would mark the first safe treatment available by prescription for peanut allergies and the patient would need to stay on the drug for a certain period of time to protect against the allergy.
