Mouth Ulcer: Useful Tips and Some Home Remedies to Cure

Mouth ulcers may be of different causes, may be due to Vitamin B2 or Riboflavin deficiency, iron deficiency, folic acid, zinc deficiency or excess acid secretion in the stomach, body heat, viral infection including a cold sore throat, or may be due to mental stress. Coconut oil swish in the empty stomach helps to heal the ulcers in the mouth.

Deficiency of vitamin B2 (riboflavin) includes redness with swelling of the lining of the mouth, accompanied by the whole digestive tract including throat, esophagus, stomach etc. This deficiency also results in sores on the outside of the lips with cracks and in the corner of the mouth. The tongue would become swollen and inflamed that the speech becomes difficult to such patients.

The foods like milk, brown rice(unpolished rice), cereals, legumes, mushrooms, green leafy vegetables including cabbage contain this vitamin. It is available in over-the-counter and also in almost all the medical stores. This Vitamin B2, when taken with a protein supplement, heals the cells of the mouth and protein help for the formation of new cells. Also iron rich foods such as dates, pomegranate, green gram, spinach, legumes and pumpkin seeds also helps to heal the wound quickly. Also, Triphala power, (Ayurvedic) detoxify the body and support the immune system.  Baking soda also helps in curing the mouth ulcers. Amla ( Indian goose berry ) rich in Vitamin C also induces immunity.

For intake, steam the green leafy vegetables and green gram sprouts rather than boiling to preserve the vitamin content in these items. Green gram sprouts can be eaten raw or used as a garnishing item in fresh vegetable salads and consumed almost daily. This sprouted green gram also helps the sugar patients to control sugar.

Swishing with the warm water with dissolved “Cooking Salt” or “Rock salt” will do wonders. Also, gargle with the salted warm water that removes a sore throat immediately. Apply the paste of turmeric powder mixed with coconut oil and leave for few minutes and rinse.  Apple Cider Vinegar rinse will also help to heal the wound as it had antiseptic and antifungal properties.  Can also apply over-the-counter mouth ulcer gels that also relieves the symptoms. Rinse the mouth with neem water (water immersed in fresh neem leaves or commercial neem powder) that relieves the viral infection.
