The funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was shot dead during an election campaign, was held in Tokyo yesterday.

On July 8th, he stood on the road in front of the railway station in Nara, Western Japan and addressed the crowd.

Then Shinzo Abe collapsed in a pool of blood when he was shot by someone standing behind him. He was hit in the heart and neck area. Abe died even after treatment. The man who shot him, Tetsuya Yamagami, 41, was arrested.

His body was taken in a procession in a black car. Along the way, people bowed their heads and paid tearful tributes to their leader.

Abe's wife Aki Abe, close relatives, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and senior party leaders participated in the funeral procession. Prime Minister's residence and Supreme Court are located in Nagatocho, Tokyo.
