Group Video Call In WhatsApp Added For Android Beta Users

Group video and audio calling features are now available in WhatsApp Android beta versions v2.18.189 and v2.18.192  but it is only to the limited set of users i.e. Android beta testers. Publicly, the update will be arriving by this year end and it came prior luckily. Already, iOS versions had been updated with audio call feature in May 2018 but, it was for only limited users availing iOS versions 2.18.52 and 2.18.60.

It Android beta users want to test it before its official global launch, they can move to Google Play Store and enable a tab "Become a beta tester" and further follow the instructions for joining the Android programme. Maximum four participants including the call initiator can be added to the group call and the 'Add participant' icon on the top right of the screen automatically gets disabled after selecting the maximum no.

Similar to group video call feature, group audio call feature also involves adding the participants in the same fashion but unlike video call, only 3 participants including the call initiator could be added. Also, another notable difference between the audio and video call is that all profile pictures of the participants shall be displayed along with their names except the call initiator.

Following the testing, if the user wants to leave the Android Programme, users have to tap on "Leave the testing program" in the beta test page on Google Play Store.
