Animation films are always the crowd pullers at the box office after the Superhero and fantasy films that dominate worldwide theatre audience. The films are easy to approach a wide set of an audience as the pleasing of kids are the main advantage of the film to be visited with family. Taking the top grossing films of all genres, animation films contribute a large extent at domestic and global box office.
The minions are one of the most followed animated characters and the Despicable Me franchise has a wide market across the world more than any other animated fantasy film characters. Though most of the franchise and character-driven films occupy the list, Frozen which was a fresh fictional solo film tops the list for a long time.
Even this year’s sensational sequel Incredibles 2 failed to surpass the worldwide collections of the film by a small margin. Taking the unbeatable top three spots, Frozen, Incredibles 2 and Minions are tough to be moved for a pretty long time by any animation films unless the next parts of Frozen and Minions releasing in next two years replace it.
As a surprise, the 1994 film Lion King holds a spot in this list and it is the only 90’s film to take a top 10 spot. Finding Nemo is another old yet favourite film to hold the tenth spot with its sequel Finding Dory making to the sixth spot with more than $1 billion box office. The upcoming sequels of Lion King, Minions, Frozen and Toy Story are likely to secure a spot in the top grossing list of all-time with a promising legacy.
